A-CHILLES TENDON REPAIR PICTURES

After running sutures are carried along each side of the tendon, the tendon is brought together end-to-end.

In some tendon ruptures, enough of damage and bleeding occurs that the tendon ends are nonviable- this means that the inflow of blood will be very poor which can cause an elongated healing process.

The injured Achilles tendon is lifted away to identify the FASCIA seperating the noninjured muscle belly of the Flexor Hallucis Longus muscle belly.

The fascia is cut to expose the muscle belly of the Flexor Hallucis Longus muscle- this is sutured to the underside of the repaired Achilles tendon to promote a phenomenon known as OXYGEN PERFUSION- increased levels of oxygen exposed to damaged and subsequently repaired tissue will promote a healing effect.
